Steven Sidor visits to talk about and sign copies of his books. His new novel is The Mirror's Edge, due in April. Booklist writes: "Sidor could be the next Harlan Coben. He writes with the same spare creepiness, investing domestic life with uspeakable terror. His descriptions of crimes may be painful to read, but they reverberate with a real sense of tragedy."

Sisters in Crime Chapter Meeting. Monthly meeting of the Indiana chapter of Sisters in Crime, an international organization of readers and writers who work to raise the visibility of women in the mystery genre. The chapter normally meets on the fourth Saturday of each month here at The Mystery Company. Speakers discuss a wide range of topics, including forensics and publishing issues. Meetings are open to all, regardless of membership in SinC. The speaker’s presentation begins at noon.

This month's speaker is Indiana State Police Detective Rick Lang. Detective Lang has been with the ISP for 32 years. He was lead investigator with the Morgan County Death Investigation Team in the Jill Behrman homicide investigation. Bring your questions and ask Detective Lang anything you ever wanted to know about homicide, homicide investigations, and police procedures.

Read-a-Thon benefits Indy Reads! We are hosting a 30-hour round-the-clock benefit for Indy Reads’ adult literacy programs. Volunteers sign up to read for 30 minute stretches throughout the day and night, and collect pledges from donors to support this local agency that’s helped open the door to reading for 100,000 people here in the Indianapolis area since 1984. Volunteers read books or stories of their choice for 30 minutes at a time. The goal of the Read-a-Thon is to have people reading — mysteries or whatever you enjoy — continuously for 30 hours. Readers are encouraged to read out loud, but there may be some reading silently too. Visit www.indyreads.org for more information about its programs, and contact either Indy Reads (at 275-4040) or The Mystery Company to volunteer.
