Our Top 40 lists of 2004
The bestselling authors list, below, excludes writers with just one book and also excludes writers where all of our sales were at off-site events. Most every title we sell in our store goes in small quantities -- ones, twos, fives, eights, etc. It's rare for a title or a writer to have really big sales in our store without an author event. Only one of our top-ten selling titles was without an author event, and in that case -- The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly -- it was a discussion group pick (though we sold a lot of copies beyond the discussion group too, as it's the title that we use to introduce readers to Connelly). Among authors, only Donna Leon among our top ten didn't do an author appearance with us (here or off-site), though I should note that Peter Lovesey -- tied for 10th -- was here only for a reception in October.
